The International Forum of Performing Arts (IFPA) is the first event in Greece dedicated exclusively to the exploration and promotion of the performing arts. It has been held every September in Drama since 2019, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and with the support of the Drama International Short Film Festival.
It is organized by Emphasis – Center for Contemporary Art and Culture and Almakalma – Performing Arts Research Laboratory, and is a contemporary, dynamic event that brings together artists, theorists, and students from Greece and abroad.
IFPA is based on three fundamental pillars:
Performance
Live performances by international and Greek artists are presented daily to the public, creating a lively field of experimentation, physical presence, and artistic expression. The performances are at the core of the event and encourage open access and meaningful experience of contemporary performance art.
Forum
The Forum includes lectures and presentations by distinguished academics, theorists, and artists. The aim is to deepen theoretical understanding and exchange knowledge directly related to live artistic practice. The Forum serves as a point of dialogue, reflection, and critical positioning on the art of performance today.
Education
Every year, as part of a structured artistic residency program, 25 students from fine arts schools are hosted. During the event, they attend and participate in workshops, seminars, and activities, which are also open to the general public, under the guidance of artists, academics, and theorists.
At the same time, the event hosts the Viewing Room, a curated digital platform created in 2020 that presents digital performance and video art works by artists from around the world. Through open calls, works are selected that highlight different artistic approaches to performance art, extending the experience of the event beyond its physical spaces and temporal boundaries. The Viewing Room acts as a bridge between the physical and digital realms of performance art, offering the public the opportunity to discover and experience art beyond the geographical boundaries of Drama, while remaining available throughout the year at www.ifpa.gr.
