IFPA 2024

6th International Forum of Performance Art

September 27–29, 2024, Drama

With distinguished artists and academics from Greece and abroad, the 6th International Forum of Performance Art (IFPA) brought Drama to life on September 27, 28, and 29, 2024. For three days, the city was transformed into an open field of dialogue, experimentation, and artistic research around this year’s theme: “Utopias: The Topology of the Unattainable.” The events were hosted at Agia Varvara Park, Lab40 of the Drama Chamber of Commerce, and the “Eleftheria” cultural center.

IFPA follows a unique flow that allows the audience to be smoothly introduced to the world of performance art:

mornings were dedicated to the student education program, which is open to the general public, with theorists and artists delivering workshops on theory and technical training. In the afternoons, the Forum hosted lectures and presentations, while the evenings culminated in live performances, creating a space of shared experience for participants and spectators alike.

This year’s Forum participants included:

George Arabatzis, Maro Galani, Antonis Diamantis, Maro Theodosiou, Maria Kenanidou, Yannis Mitrou, Sotiris Bachtsetzis, Haris Papacharalambous, Yannis Pappas, Eliza Soroga, Kostis Stafylakis, Faye Tzanetoulakou, Dimitris Trikas, Filippos Tsitsopoulos, Maria Charela, Vasilis Psaras, and Salata Kris.

Live performances were presented by:

Dyson Gillian, Catling Jack, Zarda Agapi, Vasiliou Filippos, and Stamenitis Giannis, offering powerful moments of physical presence and artistic confrontation with space and time.

Alongside the live program, the audience had access to the Viewing Room, IFPA’s digital platform, where 45 digital performance and video art works selected through an open call were screened. The works were available on the official website www.ifpa.gr throughout the event, extending the Forum experience beyond the physical boundaries of the city.

Another important collaboration was with the Center for Theater Anthropology, thanks to which Biagini Mario, Salata Kris, and Diamantis Antonis participated in the Forum’s work.

In addition, a special tribute entitled “Becoming Poetics” was presented, featuring works by students from the Department of Performing and Digital Arts at the University of the Peloponnese, curated by Assistant Professor Vasilis Psaras. Participants included: Ioannis Venetis, Theodora Martinika, Ioanna Martinika, Ioanna Dona-Laiou, Panagiotis Petrakos, Christina-Ioanna Sakellari, Xenia Serafimidou, Anna Syridou, Maria Tsitini, and Anna Fregidou.

The 6th International Forum of Performance Art was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and with the support of the Drama International Short Film Festival.
